The North Central FFA District Soil Judging Career Development Event was held at Iowa Falls on the campus of Ellsworth Community College on Wednesday, September 26th. A record 42 teams from 20 FFA Chapters were present. Prairie Valley entered three teams with two placing in the top five.
The Career Development event is an activity that compliments the Soils Management class offered at the high school. The students took a written exam and evaluated four sites.
Team results (1st place – Boone A&M #1 425 points, 2nd place - Prairie Valley #1 – 423 points, 3rd – Humboldt - 412 points, 4th – Prairie Valley #2 – 409 points, 5th – North Iowa (Buffalo Center) – 406, 6th – Riceville – 398 points, 7th – AGWSR (Ackley) – 393 points, 8th – Boone A&M #2 (378), 9th – Aplington-Parkersburg (376) and 10th place was West Hancock (Britt) with 370 points. Since Prairie Valley had two teams in the top five; only one could advance to state which means Riceville was the fifth team advancing from this district.
There were 163 members competing and local individual results were: Justin Brinkman placed second, Andy Hofbauer was fifth, Brady Dixon-6th, Tanner Kehoe-18th, Tristan Miller-19th, and Jacob Seil was 20th. Other participants for the chapter were: Pat McLeod, Cori Croonquist, Dillon Vosika, Rex Miller, and R. J. Rahn.
The state competition will be made up of 30 teams (five chapters from the six FFA districts) and will take place at Iowa State University on October 13th.
Tucker Kehoe and Jacob Stewart participated in the Greenhand Fire Up Camp which was sponsored by the District Officer team.
